Alex Jakeman is an alumnus of Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, having studied with Gitte Sorensen, Michael Cox, Kate Hill and Pat Morris. In 2009 she was appointed as sub-principal flute with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, where she stayed until 2012. She has recently joined the London Symphony Orchestra as sub-principal flute.
Alex has played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Aurora Orchestra and the City of London Sinfonia among others and enjoys the variety of repertoire and experiences that playing with different groups offers. She has also performed the Nielsen and Ibert flute concertos and had the honour of performing Malcolm Arnold’s first flute concerto as part of his 80th birthday celebrations, in the presence of the composer.
